Music magazine – interview
1. Chyna we know you currently on your London tour and your living your dream but is there anything else you’ve ever wanted to do or try?
Well I have never been on a cruise before and I missed a chance when some of my relatives took a holiday on one because I was on a tour. But I don’t regret it at all because nothing compares to being on stage.
2. We always see you singing or doing interviews so what do you do in your spare time?
Well I love spending time with my family and seeing my crazy friends were not the partying people although were always out somewhere, either just or hanging out travelling the city or in our favourite park, usually with our roller blades although I’m terrible on anything with wheels. If not with friends I’m usually quite reserved, so I try to keep up with the releases of my favourite Japanese manga books.
3. Are there any artists you want to collaborate with in the future?
Defiantly! I’m quite embarrassed actually because I’ve been an absolute crazy fan of Khalil Fong for years his music has always touched my heart and I’d like to consider him my inspiration
4. One of your songs is called ‘love paradise’, is there any love on the horizon for you Chyna?
Well I don’t think so, there’s no mystery man I’m too career driven, I’m so in love with music no one can compare.
5. On ‘this morning’ you hinted there you have a chance of being in a movie. What’s the story?
I really shouldn’t say but I will tell you have been approached by the makers of Taiwanese drama ‘fated to love you’. It’s all very secretive right now but they really wanted me to get involved with their new ideas.
6. Now you have met and even hung out with Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit when you sung in their new York tour so tell us are the boys really as relaxed as they seem?
They are very laid back and most of the time they just want to enjoy a laugh but when it comes to business they can be so professional. They are just really great musicians to work and hang out with.
7. Tell us Brits what it was like for you growing up in the republic china and Los Angeles
I love being in Taiwan. I don’t know how to describe it ‘cause its home for me and where my fascination with music through Mandopop began. Taiwan is where I’m most comfortable whereas LA was whole new experience when I moved it made me want to share my music, so my experiences and the people I’ve met make me who I am today.
8. Many readers of Yinyue music magazine wrote in wanting to know what made you start to make music.
I was always singing as a child my family said I would sing for ages wanting to entertain them. And as I grew up I began to write lyrics and took an interest in instruments so I guess I’ve always been drawn to music. Growing up in a mandarin speaking country I noticed the popularity of English spoken music in china and Taiwan and I wanted Mandopop to have the same impact on the west this urged me on further into an international music career. 9. And lastly to end on a happy note; could you name a childhood memory you are very fond of.
That’s difficult. I don’t think I can decide between; my high school leaving dance, which was very emotional and memorable or my first concert which was in Beijing. The band was Cantonese ‘beyond’ who I loved when going through my rock phase.
